Muscovite is a phyllosilicate mineral of aluminium and potassium the exact chemical formula being very complex. It's crystal system is monoclinic. It is a common micaceous mineral frequently incorporated in plutonic as well as metamorphic rocks like granite and gneiss, often giving the sparkle to these rocks. When free growing it forms stacks of wafers as seen in this sample from Minas Gerais in Brazil. Actual width of sample is 160 mm.
