A Roman gladius of Pompeian type, 1st/2nd century AD Heavily restored, slightly leaf-shaped blade with central ridge on both sides and reinforced thrusting point. Multi-piece bone handle. Guard with bronze disc washer, multiply retracted grip. The round pommel with two incorporated thin bronze sheets and riveted bronze disc. Locket and chape of part-gilt silver. The obverse of the locket with raised depiction of two eagles surmounting an antique scene with several figures, surrounded by frame borders with male heads. The carrying rings missing.
