Rain drops on a table,South Holland, Netherlands.

Rain, like snow (ice crystals) and hail (small lumps of ice layered), a form of precipitation. Together this is called rainwater. Falling raindrops are often depicted in the form of tears or pears. However, this is not a correct representation. Small raindrops are nearly spherical in shape, wherein the surface tension is greater in proportion as the diameter is smaller. From a certain size, they are in the trap by the air resistance on the underside flattened. In very large drops can occur even an umbrella shape. Large raindrops fall faster than small ones, which is not caused by the acceleration of gravity, but by the air resistance that is relatively larger for the small droplets.
