This variety is not produced from seed, but is cultivated for its tubers, which are especially val- uable for stock-feeding on account of their fatten- ing properties. They are the best hog food known. A preventive of cholera and other hog diseases. One acre planted in White French Artichoke roots will keep from 20 to 30 head of hogs in fine condi- tion from October until April. Lb., 20c; 100 lbs., $ It is a mistake to suppose that Asparagus is difficult to grow. Seed should be sown as soon in the spring as the soil can be worked into good con- dition. Pour warm water on the seed, allow it to stand until cool, pour it off, repeat and let it stand 12 or 24 hours. Sow in drills one foot apart and two inches deep. Thin plants to three inches, and transplant in fall, setting plants 1% feet apart each way. Cultivate the ground deep, and manure thoroughly. Early in the spring spade in a heavy dressing of fertilizer and one pint of salt to each square of 100 feet, and cultivate thoroughly as long as the plants will permit. Time can be saved by buying roots, but any one can make a bed from seed. One hundred plants will supply an ordinary family. COLUMBIAN MAMMOTH WHITE. Undoubtedly the most valuable variety in culti- vation. The stalks are of the largest size, are pro- duced abundantly and very early. Pkt., 5c; oz., 10c; 14 lb., 30c; tb , 85c. CONOVER'S COLOSSAL.
