Gandhi Mandapam at Kanniyakumari, Tamil Nadu, Southern India
Mahatma Ghandi visited Kanniyakumari twice - in 1925 and 1937. The central dome of the monument is 79 feet high, representing his age when he died. At noon on the day of his death, 2nd October, the sun's rays shine through a hole on the roof onto the auspicious spot where his ashes lay prior to being scattered in the waters of the Tri-Seas.
