Common. Large shrub, with large leaves and showy flowers; bluish purple. Alba (White). Flowers in slender panicles; pure white and fragrant. Persian Purple. Slender branches; leaves small, flowers purple. MOCK ORANGE (Philadelphia coronariuS). Com- mon. A rapid growing large shrub, with large, white fragrant blooms. Columbianus. Has smooth, silver-gray foliage. POMEGRANATE {Punicum granatum). Double flow- ering. These are very ornamental. We have four varieties : Alba. White. Rubra. Red. Variegata. Variegated. James Vick. Dwarf growing kind, not quite double ; scarlet. QUINCE, Japan (Cydouia Japonica ; Pyrus Japonica). A beautiful shrub, with an abundance of scarlet flowers in spring, before the leaves, which are a dark, shining green. Alba. A variety of the above, with white flowers. SWEET-SCENTED SHRUB (Calycanihtis floridus). A shrub growing from four to six feet, with dark-red flowers ; very fragrant. SMOKE TREE, or VENETIAN SUMAC {Rhus coti- nus). A shrub or small tree, bearing panicles of pale purple flowers. SCOTCH BROOM (Cylisus scoparius). An interesting- shrub, with long, pendulous branches, covered with yellow flowers.
