Design for a Sepulchral Monument of King Louis XVI of France, Giuseppe Barberi, Italian, 1746–1809, Pen and brown ink, brush and brown wash, graphite on off-white laid paper, The base is a variation of 1938-88-1288, with urns at the corners, the rest a variation of 1938-88-1289. The entire front of the lower part of the pedestal is treated like that of a sarcophagus, with two half-figures of putti supporting a wreath, and with a triangular pediment and two acroteria. Beside the upper part of the pedestal sit two female allegories, the left one with a sheep lying in her lap.
