There are an assemblage of three ordersof buildings, evidently belonging to as many distinct eras; namely, 1st,Stupendous walls and platforms, built with hewn stones of enormous bulk,and traversed by vaulted passages in several directions : 2ndly, Two verylarge Roman temples, of the age of Antoninus Pius, surmounting the plat-forms : 3rdly, The Saracenic walls and towers incorporated with the originalbuildings, when the place was converted into a fortress. These more recentadditions, though oddly built up with fragments of cornices, architraves, andpillars, are massive and imposing structures, and would claim respect, did they.
