Gaza, Palestine. 16 May 2020. Many Palestinians visit and shop at open markets during Ramadan despite the shadow of the Covid-19 threat. Markets are normally very crowded at Ramadan, and they have a special atmosphere during the holy month. Yet, the presence of a high number of children selling and making sweets at stalls highlights the difficult economic reality of the Gaza Strip. The long blockade on Gaza has severely increased the unemployment rate and poverty, often forcing children to work to support their family and to abandon schooling
