. Electric railway review . nearly all other forms, pro-vided a check valve Is fitted, as shown at A, in Figure are hose reels in use with a central water connectionas shown in Figure 303. the drum, however, revolving on ahorizontal axis. Such an arrangement is open to the same objections asthe style of hose support shown in Figure 305 (M3-4). Theentire weight of the hose is carried on only a portion of itslength and the weight of the hose thus tends to flatten it. Ifthere is any water in the hose in such forms it drains to thelower loops and remains there, this being the difficulty in prac-tically all forms of hose support. It is a very difficult detail toremedy. Another form of hose support is shown in Figure 306(M3-5). This support is objectionable on account of thesharp bends necessary in piling the hose and the weightresting on the bottom layers tending to flatten them. Furtherthere is no method of draining a hose piled in this manner, and in this respect it is even worse than that shown in Figure. Figure 306 (M 3-5). Figure 307 (M 3-6). the platform shown in Figure 30S is at the outside end of thepower plant and at a division wall, as is shown by the dottedlines. This location gives a better range of both the boilerand engine room roof, and is the safest position along theend wall, as it is braced by the division wall. Another method of supplying water to the roof is bymeans of an outdoor standpipe, ladder and platform, as shown
