The famous heraldic lion of Braunschweig was created in 1166 for duke Henry the Lion. It is the oldest known medieval bronze sculpture of this size. In 1900 two copies of the original lion were placed at the medieval Kaiserpfalz building in Goslar, Germany, one of which is shown here.
