Constant anxiety andfatigue had told severely upon hisframe, and thrown him into a stateof great weakness and this period of repose hetransferred the active duties of his military command to thePrince of Parma, and sent him with the bulk of his disposableforce to attack the strong town of Limburg. Seated on a high rock overhanging the river West, thisimportant place gave the Estates a secure footing on the frontiersof Luxemburg, in the rear of the royal army. The garrisonwas too weak to effect much in support of the national cause;but in the event of a disaster to the Kings troops, the placemight prove a very formidable centre of further on three sides by its precipitous crags, the town hadsuburbs which stretched into the country on the southern side,
