Tabarin character. 1873 illustration of a character performed by the infamous Parisian street charlatan Tabarin (real name Anthoine Girard), circa 1622. Tabarin (1584-1633) wrote and performed many farcical dialogues in Place Dauphine, Paris, France, at a time when street theatre was a highly popular. Illustration based on a design by French artist Maurice Sand (1823-1889).
