Puzzle Wood near Coleford in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. The wood is the site of iron workings which date back before Roman times. The 14 acre site was landscaped in the 1800's. JRR Tolkien visited the Forest of Dean frequently and found inspiration for The Lord of the Rings from places within it. He is reputed to have based Middle Earth on Puzzlewood.
