Pyogenic granuloma, light micrograph. Pyogenic granuloma is a relatively common, reactive proliferation of capillary blood vessels (capillary haemangioma). It presents as a shiny red pedunculated lump. Histologically they are composed of numerous endothelium-lined vascular spaces with inflammation resembling granulation tissue. Although they are benign, pyogenic granulomas can cause discomfort and profuse bleeding. Here, haemorrhaging can be seen at both sides of the granuloma.
