Chullpas of Ninamarca - Lupaca burial chambers

Archaelogical site Ninamarka (Ninamarca - "fire village" in Quechua) 83 kms from Cuzco by the road to Manu National Park stand these stone chambers, remnants of Aymara civilization. There are 30 chullpas on the spot, most of them in very good condition. Buried there are believed to be the remains of important Lupaca leaders who lived in the area during the 13th and 14th centuries
