This cars record lends striking emphasis tothe superiority of Hess-Brights in railwayservice. On this 52,000-lb. car Hess-Bright bearingshave been in operation for 200,000 car miles No. 74 motors, 65 hp. When removed the bearings were measuredfor wear, with the following results: The pinion bearing only .009 radial freedom The commutator bearing .. only .0014 radial freedom A slight grinding and polishing of the racegrooves will make the bearings practically asgood as new and ready for another 200,000miles of typical H-B service.
