Bridport off L'Orient', c1796. On 23 June 1795, the British fleet under the command of Admiral Alexander Hood, 1st Viscount Bridport (1726-1814) engaged with the French fleet under Louis Thomas Villaret-Joyeuse near the Ile de Groix, off Lorient in southern Brittany. The outcome of the battle was inconclusive although Hood did succeed in capturing three enemy ships. From Old Naval Prints, by Charles N. Robinson & Geoffrey Holme.
