He maintained, that the mayorof Bourdeaux had given sufficient notice to his constituents, by thecrier, and that no one could justly pretend ignorance. He arguedfrom the ordonnances of the Jurats, in 1759, from ancient edicts ofthe police of Paris, of a date still more remote, and from an article ofthe law of 7th of August, 1790. Thus, without any reference to thepresent code, he condemned the defendants to a fine of six francs forthose who were present, and fifteen francs for the absentees, with costs.
