Gall bladder and bile ducts. Coloured X-ray of a healthy human gall bladder (purple, centre left) and bile ducts (green, upper left). Some of the ducts at upper left are inside the liver. Bile is produced in the liver and passed through the bile ducts into the small intestine to aid digestion of fat. The bile is also stored in the gall bladder. These organs have been highlighted by the injection of a radio-opaque material that absorbs X-rays. This has been injected by using a catheter in an endoscope (blue, tube across bottom). This tube has been passed down the throat and through the stomach, passing across the spine (vertebrae down centre, blue), and into the duodenum (first part of the small intestine). This diagnostic technique is used to check for stones in the gall bladder and bile ducts.
