Light micrograph of a section through red bone marrow tissue. It consists mainly of haematopoietic tissue, where blood cells are created. The giant cells are megakaryocytes, precursors of platelets. The spaces with red blood cells are blood vessels (sinusoids) and together constitute the vascular compartment of the bone marrow. Magnification: x180 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
