Here the corps remained, inactive, until Wednesday, nottaking part in the battle. On that day, the 6th, General Hook-ers army returned across the river, and the First Division actedas rear guard. The brigade returned to Fitzhughs Crossing, andwent into camp. Early in June, the Seventh Wisconsin, and Companies A andI, of the Second Wisconsin, under the command of Colonel Rob-inson, took part in a cavalry reconnoissance, towards CulpepperCourt House. The infantry were under command of GeneralRussell, of the Sixth Corps. Reaching Brandy Station, the Unioncavalry, under Generals Pleasonton and Gregg, were attackedby an overwhelming force of the enemys cavalry.
