Apamea was an ancient Greek and Roman city on the banks of the Orontes River in Syria. The site includes the famous Great Colonnade, one of the longest in the world. As a result of the ongoing civil war in Syria that started in 2011, the Apamea ruins have been damaged and looted by treasure hunters.
