It is known as the Distant Reading Compass, and operates under conditions where the ordinary compass cannot be relied upon or would not even work. Moeover, the Distant Reading Compass will operate instruments automatically, do the intricate job of correcting for the difference between true and magentic North, and "instruct" pilot, navigator, and bomb-aimer concerning the course of the aircraft. The is a master unit, containing a compass-monitored gyroscope, which transmits its accurate reading indication to a number of repeaters distributed throughout the aircraft. The Master Unit is fitted in the aircraft in a postion in which the magenetic conditions are stable.
