The village of Barwick in Elmet. The village dates to the Iron Age. Elmet refers to the ancient Celtic kingdom of Elmet, which corresponds roughley with modern West Yorkshire. The maypole at 86 feet, is the tallest village maypole in England. During the maypole festival, which is held every three years, the maypole is lowered inspected and re-erected. The festival includes a procession and morris dancing.
