An Alaskan husky in the summer training camp for sled dogs, high up on the snowfields of Mendenhall glacier, Juneau, Alaska, US. Visitors have the ultimate experience of a helicopter ride to and from the glacier, along with an opportunity to meet the dogs and mushers and ride in a dog sled across the snow and ice. In the dog camp you will learn how to drive a team of dogs through a three mile course and all about this famous Alaskan sport of dog mushing. Over 200 dogs and 10-12 qualified Iditarod mushers and staff in the camp. The mushers stay in these quonset-like huts on the Mendenhall Glacier. The huts are all white to blend in with the environment. Most of the sled dogs are a mixture of the Alaskan Husky and various cross breeds. Every dog has his/her own dog house at the camp, but most dogs sleep outside on the snow or on the roofs. The dogs are very enthusiastic to run. The dogs love their jobs, and are very affectionate.
