An Ethiopian bridge in Haro paid for with the Fairtrade coffee premium, Ethiopia
A bridge to improve market access for many farmers who live on the other side of the Busa Kurbi river which runs through the area covered by the Cooperative The river is some 2m whde at the point of the crossing and quite fast flowing Until the bridge was built it has been a considerable barrier to farmers bringing their coffee out to the processing facilities near the main road But while a bridge has long been needed it has been impossible until now to raise the resources to construct it These have now come from the Fairtrade premium It was finished 4 months ago at a cost Birr 16695 53 This paid for the contractor to cover materials concrete steel and timber and labour The stone was provided by the community
