The State is popu-larly divided into three sections: East Tennessee, extendingfrom the North Carolina border to about the middle of the Cum-berland table land; Middle Tennessee, thence to the Tennesseeriver; and West Tennessee, occupying the territory betweenthe Tennessee and Mississippi rivers. The Mississippi formsthe western boundary, and, with the Tennessee and Cumberland, drains about three-fourths of the State. Other rivers are the Clinch, the Holston, the Forked Deer andits branches, the Big Hatchie and Wolf river.
