Walter F. Webb, ofAlbion, N. Y., with an assistant, at-tended the exhibit, and many pleasanthours were passed in and about theexhibit. Mr. Jacobs just missed meet-ing A. M. Shields, the well knownoologist of Los Angeles, tried to call Mr. Shields, whohad just left and was still in sight, hut the noise of the throng inter-cepted his call, and Shields was soonlost sight of in the crowd. Looking over tihe Lattin exhibit,Mr. Jacobs expressed the desire topurchase an Ostrich egg and a veryfine imitation of the Great Auks egg,but the rules of the Exposition pro-hibited selling anything from the ex-hibition cases, and Webb had towatch his chance to slip the Auksegg from the case while no guardswere in sight. That was none of business, but he got theprized cast of the Great Auks egg, just the same, and it still reposes inthe collection
