Dartmouth showing the ruins of ancient mercantile house destroyed by fire in May 2010 (Window detail), South Hams, Devon, England, UK

On 28th May 2010 a severe fire swept through Fairfax Place, the historic centre of Dartmouth. This destroyed a number of historic buildings, some dating back to Tudor times. It is hoped that the original facades of the structures can be saved. It is estimated that it will take about 2 years and 10 million pounds to replaced the buildings, although some Grade 1 and Grade 2 listed buildings have been lost forever.
