He is required to prosecute and defend all actions in the supreme court inwhich the state shall be interested, and when requested by the governor, or anystate officer, or the legislature, he is required to appear for the people in anycourt or tribunal in any matter, civil or criminal, in which the state or any de-partment of the government may be interested. He is required to give opinionson questions submitted to him by the legislature, the governor, or any stateofficer. He is bound to consult with and advise prosecuting attorneys whenrequested in all matters pertaining to the duties of their offices
