On the Origin of Species, Polish edition. Title page of the first edition of the first Polish translation (1884-5) of the work 'On the Origin of Species' (1859) by the British naturalist Charles Darwin (1809-1882). Detailing his theory of evolution by natural selection, this is Darwin's most famous work. It was translated into 11 European languages in his lifetime, and has been translated into at least 18 further languages since his death.
