Limántridae caterpillars have characteristic tufts of hair on the back that resemble a toothbrush. Also in the dorsal part they present a pair of small and prominent glands. The hairs of some species are stinging, so they must be treated with care. The caterpillars of the European species feed mainly on the leaves of trees and shrubs, although some eat herbaceous plants.
