Remove the post and fill the root-canal with gutta-percha, heat the post and push it to its place, smoothoff the surplus which has oozed out, put some ink on the top of thepost-head, and place the cap down over the root till it touches andleaves a mark. With a punch suitable for the purpose punch thehole (d, Fig. 1) to receive the post-head. Place the cap in position onthe root, mark off the post-head to the thickness of the nut to be used,remove the cap, and with a corundum wheel in the engine grind the Fig. 1. Fig. 2. Fig. post-head down to the marked line, trim off the rough parts, andscrew on the nut to restore the threads ; then remove the nut andplace the cap in position on the root. If it is to be a bridge, andmore than one abutment is to be used, proceed the same with theother abutments up to this point. We are now ready for the bite,which I take in wax, remove the bite carefully and take the impres-sion, in which the bands or caps should be removed if possible. Thisimpression should always be taken in plaster. After removing theimpression, if any of the caps have not come away with it, removethem carefully and place them in their positions in the the impression, oil it, being careful not to get any oil on thecaps, and pour the plaster for the model. Remove the model fromthe impression and set it up on the articulator, place the bite in posi-tion and run plaster in the same, connecting with the other half ofthe articulator.
