Garraun North Group of Galldns.—One of the branch roadsmentioned in the last paragraph leads to Garraun North. As onetravels along this road, Garraun Gorse is passed. A short distancesouth of this gorse, and a couple of fields in from the road at theright when coming southwards, is a field of furze. In this field is theGarraun North Cromlech (so marked on the Ordnance SurveyMap). It is about one mile of the Pluckanes South are three stones (A, B, C in diagram) now standing. A is anirregular stone, 41 inches high ; B is 42 inches high ; C (24 yards. C r VJ Garraun North Group distant from B) is 48 inches high. The other measurements of thestones are indicated on the diagrams. Lying against the fence of anadjoining field is a stone 2 feet high and 3 feet wide. About 20 yardsfrom this stone is another smaller stone. (Mentioned by Borlase inthe Barretts Grouj) of Dolmens, No. 2, Dolmens of Ireland, vol. i). 108. Garraun North Fort Stone.—Coming along the roadsouthwards from the Garraun North group of gallans, and at adistance of about half a mile from that group, a fine fort can be seenin the second field from the road at the left side. The fort is sur-rounded by two ramparts, and is about 50 yards in internal diameter.(Another fort can be seen from this place on higher ground farther RUDE STONE MONUMENTS IN CORK 141 to the north).
