John Radcliffe, English physician, 1747. Born at Wakefield, Yorkshire, Radcliffe (1650-1714) was Royal Physician to William III, Mary II and Queen Anne. The Radcliffe Infirmary and Observatory at Oxford were built and St Bartholomew's Hospital, London, was enlarged with money bequeathed by him. Engraving after a portrait by Godfrey Kneller (1646-1723).
