Instead of slidingdown into the vagina, as in pro-lapsus, the uterus is liable to fallor be forced into other malposi-tions. When the uterus is bentupon itself, it is called ^flexion. Ifthe bending be backward, it iscalled retroflexion/ if forward,anteflexion. The prominent symptoms of retro-flexion of the uterus are a sense of weight in the region of therectum, difficulty in evacuating the bowels, and sometimes aretention of the faeces. There may also be suppression of theuiine, and the menses may be diminished in quantity. If retro-flexion be due to a chronic- enlargement of the uterus, caused byabortion or parturition, the patient suffers from an immoderatemenstrual flow. 1693. Csilises.
