Samas of Sippara was a well-knowndeity 3800, in the time of King Sargon, was probably the thensupreme deity, for Sargon mentions no other god. One of histruest and best votaries was Nebobaladan, King of Babylon 000. By his order was this fine tablet made. Doubtless at that date Samas may have been worshipped asthe Sun-god ; but I draw attention to the following leading points. 1. The long-bearded god seated upon the throne of heavenseems
