Detroit, Michigan - Environmentalists and residents of southwest Detroit block a truck carrying petcoke to a dump site in their community. Petcoke (petroleum coke) is the residue after Canadian tar sands oil is processed at the nearby Marathon Petroleum refinery. Koch Carbon, a company controlled by Charles and David Koch, owns the material, which is piled along the Detroit River where opponents say it can pollute the air and water. After a standoff lasting several hours, the truck turned around without dumping its load. Credit: Jim West/Alamy Live News
