Many teeth of this mastodon, together with numerous ear-bones of whales, have recently been found at Felixstowe, in what is called the 'detrital bed,' so rich in phosphate of lime. That accumulation of drifted materials lies at ihe base of the red crag, and it has been supposed that the imbedded mammalian fossils were derived from the destruction of an older set of strata.
