False death cap mushrooms. View of a group of false death cap mushrooms (Amanita citrina). These fungi grow in coniferous and deciduous, especially beech, woodland from summer to late autumn. Their caps can reach 10 cm in diameter. While it is edible, it tastes unpleasant and is also best avoided to prevent mistaking it for the highly poisonous death cap mushroom (A. phalloides) which it resembles.
