Sgt. Christopher Roberts, a marksmanship coach, discusses Rct. Carla Lizano’s score with her Oct. 25, 2013, on Parris Island, Recruits such as Lizano, Platoon 4039, November Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, applied their newfound combat marksmanship skills during this qualification, firing at stationary and moving targets. The objective of marksmanship is to develop, sustain and improve individual combat shooting skills. Roberts is a 29-year-old native of Columbus, Ohio. Lizano, a 22-year-old native of El Salvador, El Salvador, is scheduled to graduate Nov. 15, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps.
