Fluorescence molecular imaging system. This machine, the Olympus OV110, is an imaging system that allows high-sensitivity, high-speed imaging from individual cells to entire small animals (such as this mouse, red) through the use of fluorescent markers. The animal can be anaesthetised with isoflurane and kept at a constant temperature within the microscopy housing unit and viewed on a computer. It has a zoom range of 105x and fluorescent imaging of the entire body, of organs, tissues or of individual cells can be conducted without disturbing the animal. The system requires a short exposure time and there are a variety of methods to label tissues, such as using fluorescent proteins or fluorescent probes.
