Extinct alligatoroid crocodilian (Diplocynodon sp.) fossil. Diplocynodon was alligator-like reptile that lived during the Paleocene to Middle Miocene periods, 59 to 13 million years ago. They were around metres in length and are thought to have been opportunistic aquatic predators. This fossil dates back to the Middle Eocene period, 47 million years ago. Found in Messel, Germany.
