Rosicrucian. The Rosicrucian impulse was set in motion towards the end of the 16th century, with the aim of reforming Christianity, and imbuing it with the arcane knowledge of alchemy, astrology and cabbalistic knowledge. This fantasy picture illustrates the union of the Cross with Cabbalistic lore (the esoteric teaching of the Jews, here symbolized by the image of the Sephirothic Man), which became inextricably linked with the Rosicrucian impulse - usually under the name of Christian-Cabbala.
