A nomad woman milks the yaks. Providing essentail wwool, meat, milk, transport and skin, the hardy yak- able to witthstand harsh weather- is essentail to the nomads. Having lived on the vast grasslands of Aba for the last few thousand years, the fate of the nomads is now in jeopardy; forced migration and overgrazing witnessing depleting pastures, taxing and herd restrictions forcing many nomads to go bankrupt. The Chinese government has other plans for the vast landacape of eastern Tibet, including gas exploration and large scale faming of barley and wheat- although it is unsure if the environment is able to cope with such crops. Over 4500 meters, much of the area remains frozen for 6-9 months a year.
