A natural shelter built utilizing a fallen tree and layers of tree limbs, branches, sticks, leaves and dirt Feb. 12, 2023, at Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, Michigan. Air Force Airmen from the 290th Joint Communications Support Squadron assembled the shelter over the course of three days. The Airmen were attending a class led by three Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) specialists to teach basic survival techniques in a cold weather environment. This class was part of the 290th’s annual training.
