It is about 10 years old and stands about five and one-half feet tall, with lots of leaves. This particular palm has always been our special favorite, because always green and healthy until about two months ago, when it began to show these discolored spots. Can you tell us what to do? It is in good, rich soil and was repotted last spring. It is kept in a temperature of 50 to 60 degrees, in a moist house, with ferns. About two or three months ago the ferns began to die of rust. Is it pos- sible that the palm contracted this disease from the ferns? These spots look like fairy ring on carnations, while the ferns are rusty all over. Please tell us, also, what is the matter with the rubber plant, a leaf of which I enclose. L. M. S. & C. The kentia leaflets show no disease, but are badly sunburnt. The injury is caused by a blister in the glass, which acts as a convex lens, focusing the rays of the sun in such a way as to burn streaks across the leaves. The best remedy is to hunt for the worst blisters in the glass (there may be several of them), put a dab of white paint on each blister on the under side of the glass, and then give the glass a light shading on the outside. The ficus leaves have been injured in the same way; the leaf in question shows one old burn and two fresh ones. W. H. T.
