In 1819 Audubon encountered anarmy of these squirrels swimming the OhioRiver about one hundred miles below Cincin-nati. Now, however, their numbers are toofew to make up such excursions, and their witsare taxed to the utmost to live snugly at homewithout being shot. I have kept many of these.
