Amateur astronomer. View of an amateur astronomer observing a solar eclipse. The astronomer is using a solar filter to observe the Sun, to avoid damaging the eyes. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, the shadow the Moon casts will partially or totally obscure the Sun from Earth. There are a minimum of at least two solar eclipses every year. Photographed in 1984 in Papua New Guinea.
